James Brownlie and Janet Bowie

James Brownlie born c1825 and was married in Glasgow on 18 June 1848[1] to Janet Bowie born c1828[2]. Janet Bowie was the daughter of John Bowie, Iron Moulder[3][4], and Mary Balfour[5]. Janet died from Consumption (8 months) at midnight on 3 February 1858[6]. She was buried at Sighthill Cemetery, Springburn, Glasgow[7]. Her death was informed by her sister Elizabeth (nee Bowie) Broadfoot[8].

They had issue:

1. William Brownlie born c1855 in Glasgow and was married at [Possilpark] in the District of Maryhill, County of Lanark on 3 October 1884[9] to Catherine Muir Galbraith born 2:30pm on 25 June 1866 at 83 Nelson Street, Glasgow. Catherine was the daughter of John Galbraith[10], Grate Fitter[11] and Sanitary Engineer[12] (Journeyman) and Jane Wright[13] who were married at Glasgow on 5th October 1860. At some time, William and Catherine lived at 31 Avenue Road, Springburn in Glasgow. William was a Journeyman Iron Moulder[14] and prior to marriage lived at 17 Hawthorn Street, Possilpark, Glasgow[15]. In 1906, William was also recorded as a General Labourer[16] and Gardener's Labourer. Catherine was a Power Loom Weaver[17] and lived at [62] Hawthorn Street, Possilpark, Glasgow[18]. Catherine died from multiple injuries, traumatic shock (said to have been run over by a coal loader) at 8:30pm on 19 August 1942[19] at the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, 12 Carleston Street[20]. Possilpark is a part of the Glasgow suburb of Springburn. Catherine had a brother named Thomas Galbraith[21]. [Check if inquest into Catherine's death]

3. John Galbraith Brownlie, Boilermaker, born 22 April 1889 Glasgow, died 10 September 1979 Townsville. John was married at The Masonic Hall, Vulcan Street, Glasgow after Banns, according to the Forms of the United Free Church on 5 June 1914[26] to Jessie Shearer Grieve, Power Loom Weaver, born 25 September 1887 Glasgow, died 2 October 1962 in Townsville. Jessie was the daughter of George Grieve, Ironfitter, and Isabella Ross McFear[27]. John lived at 13 Wellfield Street Glasgow and Jessie lived at 182 Gourlay Street Glasgow at the time of their marriage[28]. John was a boilermaker and started his apprenticeship in 1906 with North British Locomotive Company at John Brown Shipyards, Glasgow. He also worked for Queensland Railways Townsville. He retired in 1958.

They had Issue:

1. William Brownlie, born 18 May 1915 Glasgow, died 8 July 1959 Melbourne and was married in 1942 to Marie Bright.

They had Issue:

1. Sandra Marie Brownlie born 15 October 1948 in Melbourne.
